Torbreck Run Rig 2013
The estate’s flagship cuvee is the virtually perfect Run Rig. Made from 6 separate Barossa vineyards (ranging in age from 94 to 158 years), it is primarily Shiraz with about 5% co-fermented Viognier included in the blend to give it a uniquely fresh, almost ethereal palate. The sensational, inky/purple-tinged nectar exhibits complex notes of blackberries, blueberries, figs, gingerbread, and a hint of apricots. The finish includes a mix of tantalizing sweet flavors such as toffee and kirsch combined with savory prosciutto and white pepper. The balance is sublime and the texture is velvety which portends for enjoyment tonight (after decanting) worthy of 98 points and well on the road towards 99+ points through 2025. Elegant yet super-powerful, rich, concentrated, and long, it is a tour de force in winemaking as well as a modern classic example of Barossa Shiraz.
