OVID Red Experiment N4.9 2019
The new Ovid Cabernet blend “Experiment N3.8” 2018 delivers a luxuriously smooth blend of bold and rich dark fruit + delightfully fresh tannins that provide sublime enjoyment now and bode well for pleasure for at least another decade. This Cabernet blend contains a dollop of Merlot which adds rich mocha and baker’s chocolate flavors, as well as spicy Cabernet Franc for an exotic thrill on the zesty finish. The core palate displays traditional notes of blackberry, cola, dark cherry, plum, pipe tobacco, cocoa and caramel. We recommend decanting prior to 2023 and predict this age-worthy gem will continue to thrill through 2030. Well done (again). – December 2022
OVID Winery
Ovid Vineyards was founded by the husband wife team of Mark Nelson and Dana
Johnson. After selling their online medical company in 1998 they built a vacation home
on Pritchard Hill (just east of Oakville). Both are serious about wine and soon
discovered the potential of growing grapes in this location. The name “Ovid” is in
reference to a Roman Poet who lived nearly 2000 years ago.
When Mark and Dana purchased the property it had not yet been planted, however the
area in general had already proven itself. Chappellet has been on Pritchard Hill since the
late 1960’s – Colgin, one of Napa’s “cult” wineries is one of their neighbors and Bryant
Family and Dalla Valle are not far away.
