Hobel Cabernet “The Birdseye” Napa 2019
Another charismatic release made by Thomas Rivers Brown for Hobel! So inviting on the nose with aromas of ripe red fruit and milk chocolate. The suede-like texture surrounds flavors of white-chocolate covered cherries, currants, spices and luxuriously toasty oak. Stylish and superb. Decant prior to 2024 and enjoy through 2029.”- September 2022
Hobel Winery
The story of Hobel Wines began in 1998, when Cameron Hobel first met friend and
winemaker Thomas Brown in Napa. Cameron was working as the Director of Business
Development at Winebid.com and Thomas was working as Assistant Winemaker at
Turley Wine Cellars. Their mutual love of great wine led to many shared dinners and
glasses of wine, where they discussed the prospect of finding a project that would allow
them to work together in producing a world-class wine. The opportunity finally arose
eleven years later, with the 2009 Hobel Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Winemaker – Thomas Rivers Brown
Born in Sumter, South Carolina, Thomas developed an interest in wine while at the
University of Virginia. Later he expanded his knowledge of wines from all the world's
great regions while working at All Seasons Wine Shop in Calistoga. After a quick study
as cellar hand and lab enologist for famed winemakers Ehren Jordan and Larry Turley
of Turley Wine Cellars, in 2000 Thomas got his shot to take over as solo winemaker for
a newly emerging wine project, Chiarello Vineyards.
Savvy Cabernet enthusiast and top wine critics all regard winemaker Thomas Rivers
Brown as the ‘100 Point King’ in the Napa Valley given his record-setting collection of
Perfect 100 point scores = TWENTY (and counting!) from Robert Parker alone! In 2010,
Thomas was honored as Food & Wine Magazine “Winemaker of the Year.”
