Domaine Le Clos du Caillou Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve 2019
The new Clos du Caillou Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve 2019 is the most perfect young C-D-P that we have ever judged in our twenty-year history. The alluring bouquet asserts a heavenly perfume of wild strawberries, kirsch, and black cherries intermixed with provençal herbs, jasmine and dried lavender. A kaleidoscope of red fruits—cherries, raspberries and strawberries—mesmerize the palate, boasting great intensity while seeming weightless at the same time thanks to the deft integration of this skilled crafts-woman. Possessing about as much kirsch liqueur, blackberry, licorice, bouquet garni and spice as you could pack into a wine, this flamboyant, voluptuous and sexy beauty must be tasted to be believed. When a wine delivers these thrills at such an early stage, it is tempting to drink now (decanting recommended prior to 2023) but patience will be well rewarded through 2030+.
