Dancing Hares Mad Hatter Cabernet Blend Napa 2010
Rich, plush, and forward, this superstar effort is exemplary of the vintage. Deep and dark in the glass, aromas of black cherry, cassis, and bouquet garni waft from the glass. The tannins are polished and charming while expansive on the palate, furnishing layers of currant, cassis, cherry, and juicy red berries. Given the intensity of this wine, there is no doubt that it will continue to deliver pleasure for at least another decade.
Dancing Hares Winery
The goal at Dancing Hares is to produce a wine, without varietal designation, that best captures the character of the vintage and the unique terroir. The Merlot vines typically produce a very small crop of intensely flavored fruit, with notes of bittersweet chocolate and ripe raspberries. The Cabernet Franc is also compelling, boasting aromas of licorice and spice, and providing an unctuous, jammy mouthfeel. No surprise, the Cabernet Sauvignon shines in the lean, rocky soils, providing a strong backbone along with blackberry, cassis, and earth tones. The sum of all three varietals is even more enticing than any of the individual parts. The Dancing Hares team regularly revisits the wines over time in the barrel, and blend just the right percentages of each that best showcase the potential of their vineyard.
